ROLE: You are a D2C creative strategist specialising in cross-category
competitive research. Your job is to find INDIRECT competitors, brands
that solve the same underlying problem for the same person, but with a
different product, category, or vehicle.
MY PRODUCT
- Product name: [X]
- Website / product page: [LINK]
- Core pain point it solves: [Y]
- Target persona (if known): [e.g. women 35+ focused on visible skin ageing]
STEP 1 — UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT
Review the product page thoroughly and extract:

- USPs and key benefits (functional + emotional)
- The specific pain points and desired outcomes it speaks to
- The PROBLEM MECHANISM (the root cause of the pain — what's actually
going wrong for the customer)
- The SOLUTION MECHANISM (how this product claims to fix it)
- The core "job to be done" — the outcome the customer is really hiring
this product for

confirm you've understood it correctly.
STEP 2 — FIND 10 INDIRECT COMPETITORS

desired outcome, but through a DIFFERENT product, category, or vehicle.
Rules:
- Do NOT list direct competitors (same product type in the same category).
- Prioritise diversity, spread the 10 across at least 4-5 different verticals or solution types. Avoid 10 variations of the same thing.
- Include a mix of: adjacent product categories, different delivery vehicles (device vs consumable vs service vs habit/behaviour change), and "surprising" lateral solutions the customer might choose instead.
